About Me

About Ellen Sanchez

For over 25 years, I have been working with, and learning from, children and young people, in both public and private schools, and in health and wellness organizations. Throughout those years, I have developed curricula and innovative programs, within schools and in the community, to address the social and emotional learning of the students, with a focus on filling the gap in education about sexuality and gender. To surround the students with support from the adults in their lives, I have designed and delivered education to parents, teachers, and school district officials to prepare them as partners in the comprehensive education of the students. I hold a Masters degree in Education, a California teaching credential, and certification by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

My work has included:

  • training of early childhood educators so they are prepared to answer the questions that arise naturally from preschoolers as they wonder about how their world works, where babies come from, what it means to be a boy or girl;
  • direct education of students K-12 as the students move into and through puberty and adolescence, including implementation of healthy relationships education and support groups in middle and high schools in Austin and Los Angeles;
  • teacher training in individual schools and entire school districts to implement sexuality education and safe school climate strategies, K-12;
  • development of district policy for school boards and administrators;
  • educating future social workers to help address sexuality and gender with children and adult clients;
  • designing and supervising the nation’s first school- based bullying prevention program.
